How much can a PDF be compressed?
PDFs made primarily of scanned images can be compressed by 50–80%. PDFs with mostly text and vector graphics are already efficient — compression may only reduce them by 10–20%.
Compression levels
- Low — minimal quality reduction, small file size reduction. Good for print-quality documents.
- Medium — balanced setting for most use cases. Typically reduces size by 40–60%.
- High — maximum compression. Image quality is reduced. Best for sharing where file size matters most.
